Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr didn’t mince his words when asked about the team’s lack of competitive fire and Stephen Curry appearing frustrated. Ending their six-game homestand with a 3-3 record, the Dubs find themselves in a difficult position.
Tuesday night’s loss against the Miami Heat had Kerr and Co. draw a lot of flak. Many highlighted the lack of a competitive spirit on the roster. An otherwise optimist, Curry’s dejected body language spoke a thousand words.
Recording a game-high 31 points on the shooting splits of 50/47/100, Curry’s one-man show wasn’t enough. The two-time MVP’s supporting cast was rather absent, as the team was an overall 14-for-50 from the three-point line. The roster seemed to be suffering from a confidence crisis.

Steve Kerr Admits Warriors Lack Will
Currently the 10th seed in the West, the Warriors hold an 18-18 record, barely clinging to the .500 mark. The roster’s recent string of losses after a 12-3 start to their 2024-25 campaign has significantly impacted the baby-faced assassin. The four-time champion hasn’t appeared more distraught in his 16 seasons.
Addressing the media postgame, Kerr shed light on the Warrior’s lacking confidence and how he empathized with Curry.

Aware of Curry’s frustrations, the coach showed compassion for the 10-time All-Star amid the Warriors’ slump:
“I can see it with Steph. He’s continued to be brilliant night after night, but at his core, he’s a winner. He’s a champion. He wants to compete at the highest level… So he is really struggling with the emotion of not being competitive right now. He probably hasn’t had to deal with this since his first couple of years in the league.”
With Jonathan Kuminga and Gary Payton II out with injuries, it is time for veterans like Dennis Schroder and Buddy Hield to step up. Higher output was expected from the bench, which combined for 27 points in the loss against the Heat. This adds to the notion that Kerr needs to give the likes of Kyle Anderson and Kevon Looney more minutes, with the latter having disappeared as of late.
The Last Word
It’s high time general manager Mike Dunleavy and the front office make some moves before the trade deadline. Looking at how things are presently constructed, the Warriors, at most, could make it to the play-in. However, this isn’t what Curry signed up for, looking at his contributions to the franchise.
Owner Joe Lacob and the top management need to ensure the superstar’s closing championship window doesn’t go futile. New additions, including Schroder and Hield, aren’t enough to put Golden State in contention for a title.
Not one to voice his displeasure, Curry seems a little disgruntled. The media noticed Curry’s fading optimism as well. Hence, the front office cannot afford for things to turn sour, needing to provide the Bay Area’s favorite child with the proper personnel. As the trade deadline looms, rumors of names like Jimmy Butler, Nikola Vucevic, and Cam Johnson joining the Warriors continue to make headlines.
