Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been with the team since they drafted him in 2009. Currently, he is the longest-tenured player on any team in the NBA. However, following the departure of Klay Thompson, as well as the team’s shortcomings since winning a championship in 2022, rumors have circulated regarding the 36-year-old’s future with the organization. However, that should no longer appear to be a concern for Warriors fans.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors have signed Curry to a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension. This extension will keep Curry under contract through the 2026-27 season.

Last season, the Davidson alum averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. Additionally, he shot 45% from the field and 40.8% from beyond the arc. Furthermore, Curry became a 10-time All-Star and a 10-time All-NBA Team selection. He also took home the Clutch Player of the Year award and won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Stephen Curry’s Career Plans Become Clear With Recent Move
Curry Previously Hinted at Potential Golden State Warriors Exit
In July, the four-time champion spoke about potentially retiring with the team that drafted him down the line. Curry said he wants “to be a Warrior for life” but also kept the possibility of moving on from the team open.
“It’s tough, right? I’ve always said I want to be a Warrior for life. At this stage in my career, I feel like that’s possible. And you can still be a competitive, it doesn’t mean you guaranteed the championship. It doesn’t mean winning. Winning is always a priority, but obviously you’re realistic. It doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen if you stay the course. You need to shake things up and keep reimagining what it looks like to evolve with what league is at right now, with where some of these talented teams are now,” Curry said.
“Let’s put it this way, it’s a longwinded way of saying that it if it is a situation where you’re a bottom feeder and it’s just because you want to stay there, I’d have a hard time with that. But I don’t think that’s going to be the reality.”
Curry is going to be 39 years old by the time his extension ends. While it is possible he retires with a different team, it is far to assume Curry will truly be “a Warrior for life.”
The Last Word
This contract extension is a no-brainer, especially from the Warriors’ perspective. Currently, they do not appear to be legitimate title contenders. However, as long as Curry, Draymond Green, and head coach Steve Kerr are at the helm, the Warriors should continue to be firmly in the playoff picture.
