The Golden State Warriors convincingly beat the Denver Nuggets 118-104 at Chase Center on Friday night. The Warriors were on the second night of a back-to-back but still managed to come away with a crucial win, with the likes of Stephen Curry leading the way.
The Warriors are now on a five-game winning streak, with the last three wins coming against formidable opposition in the Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers and Memphis Grizzlies. There’s no denying that they’re peaking at the right moment, and Curry made a bold claim about the team in his postgame press conference.
“It’s really hard to have a sustained level of everything for 82 games, but [there’s] sense or urgency down the stretch,” Curry said, via 95.7 The Game. “The feeling of where you are in the standings, every game matters. The idea that the chess match of ‘How do we win this particular game?’ becomes a little bit more important.
“So, we talk every game in huddles, but you are a little more animated at times when you can feel the sense of urgency because of where we are at this point in the season,” Curry added. “We thrive off of that. That’s why we’ve been so successful for this many years. Because as the stakes rise, the lights get brighter, we tend to level up.”

The Warriors certainly have stepped up as the stakes have gone up in this playoff seeding race. Curry has led the charge, and he had 36 points, two rebounds, five assists and two steals against the Nuggets to ensure the Warriors ended their nine-game losing streak against them.
Curry scored 52 points against the Grizzlies and 37 against the Lakers in the two games before this one. The two-time MVP is on an absolute tear at the moment, and you do not want to be going up against him when he’s in this kind of form.

The Warriors are now 46-31 this season, thanks to Curry’s heroics. They’ll need him to be at his best again on Sunday as they take on the 51-27 Houston Rockets next at Chase Center.
