You can count Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry among the many that call themselves big fans of Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark. His name often comes up when mentioning Clark due to their knack for hitting big shots.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Curry spoke glowingly about Clark and her pursuit of the NCAA all-time scoring record. He praised Clark for her clutch shooting ability as well as her confidence, declaring that she’s “a performer” when she’s on the court.
“You can’t help but watch where she’s shooting from, the range, the confidence, the flare,” Curry said. “She’s a performer.”
Curry himself had a knack for getting the ball in the hoop as a college star at Davidson. He scored over 2,600 points in just three years for the Wildcats, including back-to-back seasons with over 900 points.
As it stands, Clark is now just eight points away from Kelsey Plum’s all-time scoring record. But once she passes the mark of 3,527, she’ll still have five regular season games, at least one Big Ten Tournament game and at least one NCAA Tournament game to further extend the record as high as she possibly can.
Clark is perfectly positioned right now to be the most well-known popular athlete in America and she hasn’t even gone pro yet.
Now if she can just find a way to replicate her college success at the pro level, then we’ll really be cooking.
That’s the Caitlin Clark effect.
