Bobby Marks of ESPN: The Jalen Green (3/$106) extension is unprecedented for multiple reasons:
1. Player option in year 3 — Teams have gotten away from putting player options in rookie extensions. The last time a rookie extension had a PO and salary of $30M+ was Luka Doncic and Trae Young.
2. The ability to extend his contract starting in Oct. 2026. Green would be eligible to sign a 4/$227M+ extension 2 years from now.
[EDITORIAL: I don’t think this was possible for Jonathan Kuminga because Green’s status as the franchise player kind of remains up in the air right now which is the basis of the agreement, imo. We all know Kuminga is great, but he’s not a franchise player especially when Curry is still signed through the next three years. So, a totally different dynamic. I actually talked a lot about fans’ misconceptions (even some reporters, too) about the deal not happening on our Sunday night livestream — which has notes in the Description that are timestamped — and maybe I’ll do a write up about that if I have time.]
Nike, the NBA, and the WNBA announced a 12-year extension of their global outfitting, merchandising, marketing and content partnership today. Nike will continue to be the exclusive on-court uniform and apparel provider for the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League. Nike will extend its rights over 12 additional seasons to design and manufacture NBA, WNBA and G League uniforms, on-court apparel, and fan apparel. (Tomer Azarly)

The WNBPA has officially opted out of the CBA. It will now expire following the 2025 season. The union highlights player salaries, minimum professional standards, retirement benefits, pregnancy/family planning benefits, and a new economic model as key negotiation priorities. This was widely expected given the increase in attendance, viewership, and more. There’s an emphasis on a new economic model. Statement from WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert: “With the historic 2024 WNBA season now in the books, we look forward to working together with the players and the WNBPA on a new CBA that is fair for all and lays the foundation for growth and success for years to come.” (Chloe Peterson, Scott Agness)

New Orleans Pelicans guard Trey Murphy III has agreed on a four-year, $112 million rookie contract extension with the franchise, sources tell ESPN. No incentives and no player option on Murphy’s contract, sources said. New Orleans locks in Murphy over the next five years. He is expected to miss time to start the 2024-25 season, per sources. (Shams Charania) — and friendly reminder I wanted GSW to pick him at 14th in the 2021 Draft. But Eric Guilleminault of NBADraft.net assured me back then that GMs were looking at upside. Murphy had played two extra years of college so he’s two years older than Moody right now.
