Steph Curry has officially passed the 4,000-made three-pointers mark. With his two makes against the Sacramento Kings, he is now at 4,000 three-pointers in the regular season for his career. What seemed like an impossible feat 10 to 15 years ago has become a reality. Steph Curry now owns one of the unbreakable records, joining legendary players on such a list.
Steph Curry Officially Joins Unbreakable Records List
The stage was set for Steph Curry to reach the 4K mark. It was fitting he got it against the Kings, a team the Warriors have been battling for the last few seasons. His record of most three-pointers made will probably never be broken. At least not likely in our lifetime. Just so that we get a sense of what Steph has done, here are some head-to-head comparisons with the greatest shooters.
For a while, Ray Allen was the leader in made three-pointers. He finished his career with 2,973 made shots from beyond the arc. During his entire career, Allen never hit more than 269 in a single season. He has passed the 200 made threes mark five times. Reggie Miller, considered one of the greatest shooters, has made more than 200 only once. We have to admit, shooting threes was not nearly as popular during the 1990s and 2000s.
Steph Curry vs. His Peers
Let’s also compare Steph to his peers. James Harden and Steph entered the league in the same year. Yet, Curry is more than 800 made threes ahead. Harden is the only other player that has eclipsed the 3,000 mark. This season alone, Steph has made 66 more threes than Harden. Harden and Klay Thompson are the only two other players who have made more than 300 threes in a single season. Both have done it only once. Steph has done it five times, and once he eclipsed the 400-made threes mark.
If we look at the younger generation, Trae Young was marketed as a young Steph Curry back in the day. But Young’s personal record is 233 made threes in a season. Curry is shooting the most threes, and making them at the most efficient rate among the best shooters. Curry will probably have many unbreakable shooting records. But this one will truly stand the test of time.
Other Unbreakable Records
By the time everything is said and done, Curry might have more than 5,000 three-pointers. That might be a conversation for another day. That begs the question, what are some other unbreakable records? Let’s take a quick look.
LeBron James, Curry’s rival for many years, will go down in history as the guy with the most scored points. James recently broke the 50,000 career points mark when combining regular and postsesson. Similar to how Curry is years ahead of his competition, James is ahead of all other players by more than 8,000 points. It is a testament to his longevity, health, and great play even in his later years.
John Stockton is the leader in career assists. Chris Paul recently made it to second on that list. But here is the interesting part. CP3 is closer to the 10th on the list than to Stockton. The difference between CP3 and Stockton is more than 3,000 assists. Stockton played 19 seasons, and in 16 of those, he played in all 82 games (also played all 50 in lockout-shortened 1998-99 season). He has a career average of 10.5 assists per game. Nobody is getting close to that.
Wilt Chamberlain has a couple of unbreakable records. Let’s mention the minutes per game in a single season. During the 1961-62 season, he averaged 48.5 minutes per game. That is more minutes than the average NBA game. He appeared in all games, seven of which went to overtime.
Last but not least, Moses Malone’s offensive rebounds. Even if we exclude his ABA years, he is still first on the list by more than 2,200 offensive rebounds. At his height, he grabbed more than seven offensive rebounds per game in two seasons. Once, he averaged 6.9. To put it in perspective, Andre Drummond, the self-proclaimed king of rebounds, has 4,000 offensive rebounds less.
