The Madison Square Garden, often called the Mecca of basketball, is the place where legendary performances occur. Every player in the NBA wants to have a great game at the Garden. But only a few have had the success that Steph Curry has had in MSG.
Steph Curry is the King of New York
With the latest win against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Steph improved to 13-1 at Madison Square Garden (he played a game there during his days at Davidson). He now has 10 consecutive wins against the Knicks at the Garden. LeBron James might have more victories at MSG, but Curry is the one that can be called the King of New York. We cannot forget Michael Jordan’s dominance against the Knicks, but in the last several years, Curry has outdone everyone. Let’s take a look at some of Steph Curry’s memorable games at Madison Square Garden. Then, let’s compare him with other players dominating at MSG.
Steph Curry at Madison Square Garden
As we said before, Curry improved to 13-1 at Madison Square Garden. If we look only at his official NBA games, he is 12-1 at MSG. The last time he lost at MSG was on February 27, 2013. Even then, he had erupted for 54 points and hit a MSG record 11 threes.
Following the game, he said,
“You only get one time a year in here, and the energy is amazing. Obviously the basketball history. And obviously, we’re really motivated right now to try to be a consistent basketball team and it was super fun to come back from a tough first half and win the game.”
With the win, the Warriors took control of the sixth seed in the West. They are tied in wins with the Timberwolves, but have one fewer loss. Since they traded for Jimmy Butler, the Warriors have gone on a great run and look like a possible playoff contender.
Legends at Madison Square Garden
If we look at players like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James, they all loved playing at Madison Square Garden. Some of their most notable performances came in this building.
On March 28, 1995, just nine games after coming back from retirement, Jordan delivered the “Double Nickel Game”. He scored 55 points on 21-37 shooting, proving he was still the most dominant player in the league. MJ scored 50+ against the Knicks four times.
LeBron James has a 23-8 record against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. He has two 50+ games at the Garden, one of which was a near triple-double. On February 4, 2009, two days after Kobe torched the Knicks for 61 points, LeBron had a 52 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists, and two blocks performance. His near triple-double remains one of the best performances at MSG. He did record a triple-double in December 2010, as a member of the Heat. James posted 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in a Heat win.
In 30 games at The Garden, LeBron James:
Averages 28.0 PPG, 6.9 RPG, & 7.4 APG
Holds a 22-8 record
Ranks 3rd in PTS (840), 2nd in AST (223), 5th in 3PM (57), & 2nd in WINS among visitors https://t.co/4cqqDRmooO

Kobe Bryant held the record for most points at the Garden for many years. He scored 61 points in 2009. It took five years for someone to pass him when Carmelo Anthony scored 62 points as a member of the Knicks. No opposing player has scored more than Kobe at MSG. The Lakers guard has a 10-6 record at Madison Square Garden.
Josh Giddey – An All-Star in New York
Here is a random fun fact most people probably do not know. While Curry is the King of New York and has an amazing record at the Madison Square Garden, Josh Giddey is great as well.
Here are two random record. Giddey is the only player besides Wilt Chamberlain to record a triple double in his first two games at MSG.
Josh Giddey joins Wilt Chamberlain (1968) as the only other player in NBA history to record triple-doubles during their first two games at Madison Square Garden.

This year, he joined Larry Bird and Magic Johson as the third player to post 100 points, 50 rebounds, and 45 assists in a five-game span against the Knicks at MSG. Some fans on Reddit joke that if he was a player on the Knicks, Giddey might be an MVP-type player. He certainly loves playing at the Garden.
