The road just got tougher for Golden State.
The Golden State Warriors are facing one of the worst teams in the NBA, but the road to a victory just got a lot harder. Less than two hours before the Warriors are set to host the Utah Jazz, head coach Steve Kerr announced that superstar point guard Steph Curry will not play in the game due to knee soreness. Kerr is hopeful that Curry will be able to play on Wednesday when the Warriors host the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Warriors have been playing things very carefully with Curry’s knees this year. Last week he played on a Wednesday and a Thursday against the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls, which represented his first back-to-back in exactly two months. It shouldn’t be surprising that he’s not playing both of these games, though it’s concerning that he’s a late scratch after two consecutive off days. But hopefully a day off, some treatment, and a night of rest will get him ready for what could be an epic game on Wednesday against the Thunder.
Kerr announced that veteran guard Dennis Schröder, playing in just his 21st game since getting traded to the Warriors, will start in Curry’s place alongside Buddy Hield, Andrew Wiggins, Moses Moody, and Trayce Jackson-Davis.
Curry’s absence means the game will be sorely lacking in star power. The recently-named 11-time All-Star joins Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga as sidelined Warriors players, while the Jazz will be without Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, Jordan Clarkson, and Walker Kessler, among others.
