The Golden State Warriors said they wanted to fill out their bench with veterans who wouldn’t be distractions. That’s led them to Rudy Gay, who will go to camp with Golden State to compete for a roster spot for his 18th NBA season.
Gay was traded by the Utah Jazz for John Collins in a salary-clearing deal by the Atlanta Hawks earlier this offseason. The Hawks then traded Gay to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who subsequently waived the veteran forward.
Last season, Gay averaged 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game over 56 appearances with the Jazz. He’s also played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs in his 17-year career.
