Over the last few years, Draymond Green has often been mentioned in trade talks surrounding the Golden State Warriors. A thirteen-year veteran in the league, the 2016-17 DPOY has played his entire career in the Bay Area thus far. He has played a pivotal role in their dynastic run.
Draymond’s playmaking and defense continue to be a huge asset. The four-time champion isn’t getting younger anytime soon. Therefore, the 34-year-old’s name has popped up previously during trade rumors surrounding the Warriors.
Appearing on Jeff Teague‘s Club 520 podcast in July this year, Dray touched upon an array of topics. One of them was his desired trade destination if the Warriors toyed with the idea of trading him. A Michigan native, Dray didn’t mind the idea of donning a Detroit Pistons uniform.

Representing the Dubs, Dray has averaged 8.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists on 45.1% shooting from the field in his career. However, the four-time All-Star’s contributions to the San Francisco-based franchise go beyond stats. The Warriors veteran is known for his ability to galvanize the troops.
Draymond has had his share of issues on the court which has led some to believe that the Warriors should have looked to trade him. While Dray isn’t alien to the murmurs, he just has one request.
Addressing the Draymond Green Detroit Pistons trade rumors, the defensive savant stated.
“I pray to God, If they (GSW) ever feel the need to get rid of me. If they’re going to send me to any like non-winning organization, they send me to Detroit. That’s the crib, I can make it due there…..I’d much rather be in Detroit rather than Charlotte.”
The ex-Michigan State Spartan player could be a good fit on the Pistons’ young roster, given his ability to lead. No doubt, the Detroit franchise has been tanking for some years now, but Dray would still prefer playing for his hometown, grooming the likes of Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.
Draymond Green almost signed with the Grizzlies in 2023
While Draymond did ultimately re-sign with the Warriors, he had considered joining the Memphis Grizzlies. The veteran forward even conveyed his intentions to teammates Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson as well as head coach l Steve Kerr.
Addressing Klay’s signing with the Dallas Mavericks, Dray recalled how he was about to join the Grizzlies, saying the following in an earlier episode of his podcast.
“Last year during free agency, I called Klay and I called Steph…and Steve, and I was just telling them, like, ‘Yo I’m leaving, I’m going to Memphis.’ I remember that call with them, cause I was gonna leave… and (my wife said) ‘It’s reminding me of when we were in Paris and you were calling them.’ And obviously, we got it figured out.”
Considering how the Warriors have been playing this season, Dub Nation shall be thanking its stars that Draymond didn’t leave. As no matter how many times the two-time Olympic gold medalist gets into trouble for actions on the court, he is the glue that holds the team together.
