Adding something this time to the usual notes and quotes from pregame and postgame. I’ll try to make this a regular thing: what we actually learned from game day including little nuggets of information (this is going to sound weird after next game when it’s the Golden State Warriors vs the Denver Nuggets, but oh well). Plus I’ll list all the topics we covered on the live commentary during the game.
WHAT WE LEARNED:
Before the broadcast, I reported in the last article that a reliable source said Draymond Green had already talked to Jordan Poole in-depth. At pregame (see below), Steve Kerr announced he would comment on Green in the postgame interview. At that point we had no idea if that meant Kerr would announce a suspension. I eventually said on the livestream it could be 51/49 that Dray would be suspended.
But then I was also told that Draymond was at practice, so that helped alleviate some of the tension we on the livechat were having. For the most part, the commenters on our live wanted Green and Poole to reconcile, contrary to the outrage culture on social media which largely had demanded Draymond be traded.
In the pregame Kerr said Andre Iguodala would not be ready by Opening Night and they’re hoping Klay Thompson will play the last preseason game, in time to be ready to go for that season opener.
Finally, at the postgame presser, Kerr heaped praise on Kevon Looney for his role in the healing process (see below).
The only thing that’s missing below is the behind-the-scenes video(s) from the game itself. Not sure if I’ll do two, one in HD and one for mobile phones in portrait mode, or just the landscape version.
DISCLAIMER: Quotes below are for my main workflow of YouTube videos, tweeted by beatwriters. I used to transcribe every interview but it became too tedious and not worth the investment for the small amount of views we got on the soundbites on YouTube. The links to the tweets are not available because sometimes I don’t use the full tweet and just having a ton of tweets on this website imo isn’t aesthetically pleasing and gets away from the main goal: transferring information (not so much entertainment) to the brains of DubNation asap.
STEVE PREGAME
• Klay Thompson will not play tonight. He did scrimmage earlier today, and Steve Kerr says he’s hopeful Thompson will play in their final preseason game Friday. (Kendra Andrews)
• Kerr said he’ll talk about Draymond Green’s return timeline after the game. (Madeline Kenney)
• Starters: Donte, Moses, JK, JyMychal, Wiseman. No Steph, Klay, Poole, Wiggins, or Looney tonight, as they have a scheduled off day. The team scrimmaged this morning, Kerr said, and that’s enough work for them. (Jason Dumas, Tim Kawakami)
• Andre Iguodala will not be active on opening night vs Lakers on Oct 18, Kerr said. Iguodala hasn’t scrimmaged yet. That’s usually a mandatory stage for a player before he starts to play in games. They’re slowing things down to try to make sure he’s available later in the season. (Monte Poole, Madeline Kenney, Alex Espinoza, Tim Kawakami)
• Kerr said GP2 talked with the Warriors yesterday during practice: “Everyone loves Gary. We miss him but we couldn’t be happier for him.” (Alex Espinoza)
• Damian Lillard resting tonight against Warriors. (Marc Spears via Chauncey Billups pregame)
IN-GAME TOPICS:
These are listed with their timestamps on YouTube. This is a straight copy/paste from the Description of the video on YouTube. I have not deleted the timestamps so as to save time. Should you wish for me to expound on any of these topics, please leave a comment below. Btw, we ended up staying on the livestream for 4.5 hours. I stopped keeping track of the topics after the 2:55:00 mark, but we did address a lot of the negativity towards Draymond as the postgame audio was happening.
11:30 Klay pregame via Chris Alvarez (ABC7)
12:30 Kerr will discuss Draymond postgame, what do we think is happening?
13:30 My three things about the Draymond-Poole altercation: 1) Saginaw is No. 4 in murders per 1k (0.57), so families like the Greens are almost always in fight-or-flight mode, 2) Poole did also escalate from face-to-face to a shove, and 3) as previously stated, the two have already talked in-depth.
19:00 why Steve is going to the podium postgame to talk about Draymond (51/49 guess on suspension)
34:00 can we really say right now that this is Draymond’s last year? There are still eight months to go. A lot can happen. And the positive people in DubNation like those here on LetsGoWarriors are thinking this could end up making the team stronger. Also perhaps Green would be compelled to opt-in? SOURCE: Draymond does not want to be traded.
37:00 Dean “of Positivity” Chambers: “a lot of people want to tear this team apart”
39:45 Moses Moody’s jumper looks a little like Klay’s
47:00 Coach Nick‘s information vs entertainment style with his videos. He dropped a gem of a video earlier in the day about Stephen Curry changing the game and it was highly informative and entertaining.
50:00 Moody!
53:00 Portland starting guard Josh Hart went to Villanova, where Donte DiVincenzo won not one, but two, rings and also scored 30 in the championship
1:02:45 someone fun to watch is who we’ll have to cut, unfortunately
1:03:00 Ryan Rollins showing us things
1:04:00 Bob Myers on audio
1:09:00 Western Conference is tough, but East on par per Bob?
1:17:00 in the comments: sign Poole now for $120M instead of projected $144M offer sheet Summer 2023
1:20:00 Bob: “Everything Looney can do, James Wiseman can do better (eventually)”
1:36:00 Andre Iguodala’s role this season
1:39:00 impressive rookies so far per Rich and Dean: Patrick Baldwin, Jr. and Rollins
1:44:00 hire David West! West sent out a tweet recently that highly criticized whomever leaked the Draymond video
1:49:00 leak or mole? We don’t know. Could’ve been a security guard who passed by the game film room, who knows.
1:52:00 what Festus Ezeli tweeted is what Dean has been saying: a lot of people have been wanting to see GSW fall from grace
1:56:00 a lot of Draymond detractors are not giving a path towards forgiveness
1:58:00 Rich says Bob definitely wants to keep Draymond, per both their obvious close friendship over the years but also the presser Myers recently did, so…? (The hot takes on Twitter are ridiculous)
2:00:00 clip of Klay telling Rollins to get out of his seat
2:18:00 Steph says PBJ is his “locker-mate” (Rollins other side, jokes “too many light-skins”)
2:30:00 SOURCE: Draymond was at practice today!
2:32:00 Gui Santos confirmed today he will be in Santa Cruz on social media, news that LGW confirmed on 9/30/2022

2:39:30 OKC has a roster loaded with young talent, but GSW has a treasure trove too
2:45:00 Gui Santos posts on IG from Chase Center!
2:46:00 why Rich and Dean do what they do here on LGW (dialogue vs debate/argument)
2:47:30 Dean: “I like to be a basketball historian…without being attacked”
2:55:00 Wiseman postgame on-court: “Me and JP (in the pick&roll) is gonna be deadly”
