Klay Thompson made seven three-pointers in the first quarter against the Wizards on Monday had fans going down memory lane. Once hot from beyond the arc, no defense can curtail the veteran guard. It was a moment reminiscent of his Splash Brothers days along with Stephen Curry in the Bay Area.
Addressing the media postgame, Thompson was asked about the rumored tag team three-point contest between the Splash Bros and WNBA duo of Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark. To every hoop fan’s delight, the four-time champion seemed nothing but welcoming of the event.
“That’d be fun. I don’t know the details, but if the opportunity presents itself, that would be cool to be a part of,” said Thompson.
What makes the occasion even more special is the host city for the 2025 All-Star Weekend. Taking place in San Francisco, a Splash Bros reunion for a three-point challenge would be the ultimate tribute to Dub Nation. With Ionescu and Clark on the opposite side, this would make for must-see TV.

NBA vs. WNBA Potentially At All-Star Game
It was a display of skills that we first witnessed during the 2024 All-Star Weekend Indianapolis. Zeroing on the best shooters from both worlds, Curry and Ionescu would battle it out for the ultimate three-point challenge. It was a landmark event that had The Chef edge Queen Sabrina 29-26.
In a bid to revive the hype around the All-Star Weekend, there have been rumors of another collaboration between the NBA and WNBA. However, this time around Curry and Ionescu will have a partner. This would include Thompson and Clark joining the mix as well.
Though there hasn’t been any confirmation, the joint venture would certainly help boost viewership. Fans would throng Chase Center in large numbers for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. With the dunk contest receiving a lot of flak, Commissioner Adam Silver needs to protect the brand.
Difference in 3-Point Rules Between NBA and WNBA
The biggest differentiating factor in the two leagues is the distance between the three-point lines and the basket. For the WNBA, the three-point line is slightly closer to the basket. It is 22.15 feet at the top of the arc and 21.65 feet in the corners. On the other hand, it is 23.75 feet at the top and 22 feet in the corners for the NBA.
Another key contrast is the ball circumference, which is 28.5 inches in the WNBA and 29.5 inches in the NBA, leading to a difference of two ounces. If the three-point challenge between the Splash Bros and WNBA sniper duo is green lighted, the officials will need to review any changes made to the format.
Looking back at the long-range shootout challenge between Curry and Ionescu in 2024, the latter had refused to shoot from the WNBA three-point mark. While many were skeptical about this stance, the New York Liberty point guard was three points shy from claiming victory over the Warriors MVP.
One will have to wait and watch how things unfold in the coming days, especially regarding the announcements around the potential crossover three-point challenge. It would be a sight to behold, especially for fans in the Bay Area.
