Here’s the Bob Myers part of the season kickoff this morning at Chase Center. Some video highlights:
And the entire video:
Friendly reminder, Dean “of Positivity” Chambers and I will go live on the YouTube channel at 6:00PM PDT to dissect both interviews with Steve Kerr (previous article) and Myers.
DISCLAIMER: These are all just notes for my main workflow of YouTube videos, tweeted by beatwriters. I used to transcribe every interview but it became too tedious and not worth the investment for the small amount of views we got on the soundbites on YouTube. The links to the tweets are not available because sometimes I don’t use the full tweet and just having a ton of tweets on this website imo isn’t aesthetically pleasing and gets away from the main goal: transferring information (not so much entertainment) asap.
• Bob Myers on the guys entering contract years: “We want all those guys. Can we get them? I don’t know. It depends on what the money ends up being with what the ask is [and] what we can do. We’re not at a point to make those decisions yet…Some of these decisions might be made in the next two weeks. Some might be made in seven or eight months. I don’t know.” (Madeline Kenney, Connor Letourneau)
• On Jordan Poole negotiations (Oct 17th deadline): “We’re gonna meet with his representatives after Tokyo and sit down for the first time… Where that will go, I don’t know. I know that they want to meet and I know we want to meet…I think after Tokyo (we’ll) sit down for the first time and start having that conversation. That’s about two weeks out from the deadline for him…Right now, it’s hard to say where this unfolds.” (Madeline Kenney, Kerith Burke, Kendra Andrews, 95.7 The Game)
• On all the extension talks: “It’s a high-class issue in my opinion. … To have a lot of guys you want to keep and who want to get paid, it’s an issue you want to have… I talked to Rich Paul the other night…The good news for us is I don’t hear anybody who wants to leave.” (Connor Letourneau, Alex Espinoza, Dalton Johnson)
• “This is the first time we’re healthy in a while going into training camp. (Knocks on wood)…Our goal in the front office is, can we be labeled a contender?” (John Dickinson, Janie McCauley)
• On Iguodala: “I’ve never had someone like Andre…he’s earned that right to make his own decision. We don’t want to force him into something and then two weeks later, he says I’m not up for this…You gotta have leverage to play that this far out, which he does. … We’re waiting. … We haven’t put pressure on him. You’ll know when I know. Watch his podcast, I guess.” (Kerith Burke, Alex Espinoza, Whitley Sandretto)
• “Steph called a few guys this summer to get them to play on our team. I can’t stop Draymond from doing that. Klay probably doesn’t even know who is on our team yet and he’s downstairs working out now.” (Jason Dumas)
• On Steph: “Who he is, it’s the rarest of rare.” (Janie McCauley)
• Myers said Patrick Baldwin Jr. will probably start the season in Santa Cruz with G League: “We are looking at him as if he could help us in the future…I think he starts there, but I don’t want to take away his chance to earn minutes.” (Alex Espinoza, Kerith Burke)
• Myers said James Wiseman hasn’t missed any of the team’s recent pickup games: “We track the pickup games, and he’s the only one in the facility that played in every one… He didn’t miss anything. There’s no swelling. Happy that he’s healthy. Now he can start the work.” (Mark Haynes, Alex Espinoza)
• On Steph’s leadership: “It’s the rarest of rare.” (NBCSBA)
• Myers says a Curry call goes a long way to landing a free agent: “Draymond, I can’t stop him from doing that. Klay, I have no idea if he knows who we signed. He doesn’t even know who is on our team, he’s down there right now.” (Shayna Rubin)
