Mike Dunleavy Jr. Is Trending Following Bob Myers' Departure Tuesday

Longtime Golden State Warriors president and general manager Bob Myers is officially stepping away from the franchise.

Myers, whose contract expires in June, has been with the Warriors for 12 years and played an integral role in building Golden State’s recent dynasty.

“It’s just time,” the 48-year-old executive told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

According to Wojnarowski, Warriors owner Joe Lacob is “expected to seek more prominent roles for his son, Kirk, an executive vice president of basketball operations, and VP of basketball operations Mike Dunleavy Jr.”

Dunleavy, 42, has been with the Warriors since 2018 and was promoted to assistant general manager in 2019 before getting bumped up to this current role in 2021.

The former Duke star and longtime NBA wing has been trending on Twitter since the news about Myers broke.

“My primary reservation with Dunleavy stepping in as GM is that he may be eager to prove himself and set out to make a blockbuster move, which could initially appear promising, but is compromising down the road. I’m curious to see how negotiations go and how aggressive he’ll be,” a Warriors fan added.

The Warriors, who won the NBA title in 2022, are coming off a second-round playoff exit this year.
