Kevin Durant expounded upon his decision to express to the Golden State Warriors that he preferred not to be traded back to the franchise at the deadline. Durant not only wanted to see out the season with the Phoenix Suns, but also was concerned about the state of the Warriors’ roster with a midseason blockbuster.
“I want my career to end on my terms,” said Durant on The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis. “That’s the only thing I’m worried about. Because I see a lot of dudes who don’t get that opportunity. I want to keep putting in work to make that choice on my own.
“But as far as the Warriors, I didn’t want to move. And then as a player like me, I cost a lot. Me going into your team in the middle of the season is going to be a big blow to any team I’m going to. I get why you wanted to trade for me. Simple fact, that’s just business. For me looking at it, it just don’t make sense for either side right now to go through that when we just play the season out and if that’s the decision you want to make in the offseason, then we can figure it out.
“If I can stop it, then why not? And then all the narratives that will come with all that. I didn’t feel like there was a need to make that kind of a change.”
Durant also spoke about how he wanted to “see this through” with the Suns this season.
