Fans are certainly known to have overreactions when it comes to their favorite NBA team, or favorite sports teams in general. New York Knicks fans wanted a do-over on the Mikal Bridges trade with the Brooklyn Nets after the first month of the 2024-25 season. He is now in the midst of a superb December, including a 41-point Christmas Day outing. Milwaukee Bucks fans all wanted Doc Rivers canned after a 2-8 start. The team has certainly rebounded, going 14-5 since and winning the NBA Cup.
While Dennis Schroder has only appeared in five games for the Golden State Warriors, the overreactions from Golden State fans have begun. There is plenty of time for Schroder and the team to be able to laugh off the rough start, but that’s exactly what it has been…rough.
Dennis Schroder Continues Slow Start With New Team
Dennis Schroder Off To Slow Start First 5 Games With Warriors
It was on December 15 that the Warriors acquired Dennis Schroder from the Nets. The trade involved Schroder and a 2025 second round pick going to the Warriors in exchange for De’Anthony Melton (out for the season), Reece Beekman, and three second round picks. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr soon after announced that Schroder would enter the starting lineup from the get-go.
While five games is a very small sample size, it has not been an ideal beginning for the 31-year-old guard with his new team. Golden State fell to 1-4 with Schroder in the lineup after their 102-92 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday. Yes, the Warriors were without Stephen Curry and Draymond Green for that game, but once again, Schroder couldn’t get it going on offense. He shot just 3-11 from the field, 0-6 from beyond the arc, and 1-2 from the foul line.
That continued Schroder’s shooting woes since joining Golden State. In the five outings. the 6-foot-1 guard is shooting just 14-50 (28.0%) from the field, 4-23 (17.4%) from three-point territory, and 9-12 (75.0%) from the free-throw line. He has yet to have a game with the Warriors where he has shot even 40% from the field.
Was Having Excellent Season With Nets
Schroder was highly sought-after not just by the Warriors, but other teams as well. He was arguably in the midst of his best season in the league with Brooklyn prior to being dealt.
In 23 games with the Nets, the 12-year-veteran posted averages of 18.4 points, 6.6 assists, and 1.1 steals. He connected on 38.7% of his three-point tries which would be a career-best. Everyone knew though that Schroder, and likely others, would be traded away from Brooklyn.
The Warriors have not been playing well with Schroder. That was also true though before they received him in a deal. They were just 2-8 in the 10 games prior to Schroder joining them. They now sit at 15-15, tied for the 10th-best record in the Western Conference.
Again, it has just been five games with Schroder. Last season, the Clippers got off to a bad start after trading for James Harden before turning it around. Golden State’s next opportunity to do so comes Saturday night at home against the Phoenix Suns.
