Dell Curry‘s longtime teammate, Muggsy Bogues reminisced having a duel against a young Stephen Curry in Toronto. Son of a 16-year NBA veteran, the Warriors MVP was fortunate to have early access to the league. There are several archives of the father-son duo on social media practicing before games.
During Dell’s playing days, Steph got the opportunity to spend time with his father’s peers and their families. One of them was Bogues, with who Dell played ten years with on the Hornets. The duo did reunite on the Raptors for a brief period as well.
Having observed Steph from his childhood days, Bogues had an interesting story to share about the Warriors superstar. The veteran 5-foot-3 guard revealed how the younger Curry, who accompanied him and Dell during several games, decided to challenge him for a duel.

Muggsy Bogues Addresses Duel Against Steph Curry
From knowing him since a young age, Bogues takes a lot of pride in Steph, looking at his achievements. Calling him the greatest shooter of all time, Muggsy revisited playing against a young version of him in Toronto. Bogues said,
“You know Steph and I go way back. You know Dell and I played ten years together with him in Charlotte. And Steph was right there at the helms of it. As a kid, him and my son, and my daughter, they was playing quite a bit. And then of course when we got to Toronto, he was a little older and he felt like he can take me one-on-one.”
While he didn’t appear as a traditional NBA player, Bogues had made a name for himself. The Hornets veteran possessed elite ball-handling skills, coupled with high agility and basketball IQ. Hence, he wasn’t going to let Steph have it so easy. Talking about their duel, the 60-year-old added,
“So I want to let him know that it ain’t happening. And you saw – you saw the results. He was on my hip. Trying to play that old defense that they can’t play today with the forearm in there, so. But I’m just so proud of him.”

Bogues concluded by asking who would have ever imagined the baby-faced assassin would go on to be the greatest shooter of all time. Certainly, a moment of pride for the Curry father-son duo.
The Last Word
The name that changed the game, Steph is a once-in-a-generation talent. Known as one of the most influential players of all time, the ten-time All-Star has inspired millions. Smaller guards, including Bogues, enjoyed success before Steph opened the floodgates for many.
Today, three-point shooting has become one of the essential prerequisites for any aspirant. Today’s generation wants to pull up from halfcourt instead of developing an inside game. Many have called this detrimental to the spirit of the game, but that’s a topic for another day.
It will be a while before the basketball gurus discover a talent such as that of Steph. Standing at 6-foot-3, the two-time scoring champion globally revolutionized the game of basketball.
