Got some really great footage from courtside that showed Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green’s will and physicality while boxing out Anthony Davis, Jordan Poole assisting on a Stephen Curry midrange bucket after a cut that countered Dennis Schroder’s top-blocking, and Curry executing the game plan of not fouling by keeping his hands back and not reaching in on D’Angelo Russell.
Thanks to LetsGoWarriors friend Anthony Schlander (@anthonypresents) who had these clips from courtside by the LA Lakers’ bench — see behind-the-scenes video below. I’m not sure if his intention was to highlight the in-game tactics of Dray and Steph and JP, per se, but it was certainly eye-opening and pleasant to see up-close. Of course, there were the usual “sideshows” such as Zendaya, other celebrities (see below), super-fan Christian Gamboa getting gifted Curry’s game-worn shoes, and more.
With that, here are the rest of the notes and timestamps from that Game 2 BTS video, followed by the picture gallery (oops, I may have forgotten to include a gallery last article), livestream commentary and finally all of the interviews from postgame in reverse chronological order.
Speaking of which, I do want to point out JaMychal Green’s Q&A where he shed light on how Steph’s speech allowed him to “let it go” as far as any ego or frustrations of not playing had gone. Green also described watching Klay Thompson hit dagger 3s as, “You be like, ‘Wut?!?!’” — so I’m not sure if it was the catchy thumbnail or the reference to Curry’s speech, but that upload somehow has surpassed 160,000 views on YouTube (see below).

1:37:30 on Poole: do you guys remember 2019? I was there at practice when Ron Adams had a NBA Defense 101 session with all the young fellas: Bowman, Paschall, JP, Chriss and other young guys. Poole was drafted without any NBA defensive skills. The same can roughly be said of Steph Curry, but I will give the nod to Steph in terms of the defensive desire.

5:49:00 Looney in 2017-18 played 13.8 mpg regular season and 19.3 mpg in the playoffs, Moody averaged 13.0 mpg this season
DISCLAIMER: These are all just notes for my main workflow of YouTube videos, mostly transcribed by me shortly after the interviews and during my coverage of postgame on our livestreams (!). Sometimes I’ll just use what’s tweeted by beatwriters, as listed. The links to the tweets are not available because sometimes I don’t use the full tweet and just having a ton of tweets on this website imo isn’t aesthetically pleasing and gets away from the main goal: transferring information (not so much entertainment) to the brains of DubNation asap.

• On mindset into Game 2: “be aggressive on both ends… I never wanted to leave the game feeling like that again… Chris DeMarco showed me the film… idk who this guy is… fourth quarter, this is the guy I know, show up that way tomorrow… be decisive… Game 1 I was very indecisive on both ends.”
• On his gameday outfit: “Antoine Griezman… been to a few of those (international champions’ Cup)… honorary captain… jersey… good luck.”

• Dalton Johnson exclusive quotes with Draymond Green from locker room, on Chris DeMarco: https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/warriors/why-chris-demarco-was-warriors-unsung-hero-game-2-win-vs-lakers
“He said, ‘I didn’t even recognize — who were you last night? I didn’t recognize you. You f–king awful defensively last night. I’ve never seen that,'” Green said to NBC Sports Bay Area.
…
“What are you doing?” DeMarco repeated to Draymond.
…
“I had no answer for him except, ‘I’ll make it right. I’ll be locked-in,'” Green remembers.
…
“He’s like, ‘Trust your instinct, trust your gut. You know what the f–k to do. Lock in.’ And it was enough for me to hear,” Green said.
…
“His voice is huge,” Green said. “His voice is huge on this coaching staff. Chris DeMarco is one of those guys that’s not afraid to hear his own voice, that’s going to have those tough-ass conversations. He’s not he’s not afraid to challenge anyone. And I think that’s a special thing.
“At times you get in these locker rooms and you have stars and coaches won’t always challenge. Chris DeMarco will challenge anybody, from Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, myself, Steve [Kerr]. He’ll challenge anyone. He’s not afraid to hear his voice and he’s not afraid to have tough conversations. He’s not afraid of confrontation.
“I think for us, having him here has always been a special thing, he’s a special weapon for us.”
…
“He carries that same underdog mindset as a coach,” Draymond said. “And I think, like I said for him, No. 1, he’s smarter than s–t. I don’t think people realize how smart he is. He watches a ton of film, and how much we rely on his expertise.
“Not only do we rely on his expertise, but we rely on his dog mentality and I think that’s been a big key for us, especially when losing Mike Brown, just having someone that kind of has that same mindset. Oh, he’s huge for us.”
• Klay Thompson postgame Game 2, on what they did well: “We applied what we watched on film. Shout out to JaMychal Green… knockdown shooter and a rugged defender… professional…”
• On being pissed after G1: “I didn’t play well… let my guard down. We let one slip away but we did our job tonight… go to LA with the same mindset… physical defense, ball-sharing…”
• On being jazzed up: “moments you work for… short moments of euphoria and that flow state make all those hard days more than worth it… even better when you couple that with a win.”
• On the same stats as 2017 vs Cavs: “I had no idea. That feels like an eternity ago. It’s still weird seeing LeBron as a Laker… the Michaels, Kobes… bring out the best in you… an honor to matchup against the greats but it’s not us against LeBron James, though… at 38, incredible and inspiring for athletes everywhere.”
• On if he felt he needed to play extra: “Not really. I just try to play within myself and I told myself that… at my best when I’m running around screens… cutting hard… we go as he goes (Steph and his 12 assists).”
• On playing the next two in LA: “I’m gonna be myself… hunt great shots… from a life standpoint it’s such an incredible experience. I would go to Staples as a high school basketball player with my pops just dreaming… excited to do it in a building where all my hoop dreams came about… so much respect for the opportunity… huge Kobe fan… play my hardest just to honestly honor him and Gigi… his tenacity…”
• On helping defend the attacks of the Lakers: “I can still use my size and defensive positioning… sticking with the game plan… staying within the flow of the offense and hunting great shots…”
• On Draymond: “That’s the Draymond that we love… being 6’7 250… he’s our Swiss Army knife… we go as Dray goes.”
• On what he said when he screamed after the euphoric three: “…sometimes… things just come about… I as saying something along the lines of I’m the One and a few cuss words…”
• On playing with more force to make it harder for AD: “Draymond can matchup with anybody… quick feet for his size… pest… it’s a tall task… trust him to continue to try and slow him down.”
• On how he prepared for G2: “relaxed a little bit more… tonight I just let it come to me and I told myself to stay patient and it paid dividends.”
• On if he’ll take another dip in the ocean like 2019: “…I’d… not so June gloomy… something about getting in the Pacific Ocean and body surfing… mental and spiritual being. I’m a true believer in the power of the ocean and all her healing properties.”
• Steph Curry postgame Game 2, on playing on-ball: “It was a point of emphasis of trying to get the ball in my hands a little bit more at the start… adjustments… will continue… beauty of what we can do… different ways using gravity but that was connected with our defense… not fouling, make them earn everything… Bron came out hot…”
• On going small: “You gotta give up something. What’s that movie? (inaudible)… using our strengths to our advantage… as long as we’re decisive… just gotta knock them down so JaMychal was huge… Klay got going early… Draymond was amazing in the pocket…”
• On scoring 50 vs tonight: “I like to score, too… whatever’s working just sticking with that until we have to do something different… as long as we’re creating open shots… ball finds the right person and good things happen.”
• On Klay being pissed off after G1, added significance because it’s the Lakers: “…he takes that stuff personally… whatever added fuel to the fire you need… personal history and fandom… we gotta find motivation to keep the fuel going…”
• On JaMychal saying his speech got him out of his feelings: “We talk about it a lot in the sense that it’s really difficult for a lot of guys to keep confidence in themselves… keep your skill set sharp… guys that always step up… that message that it’s gonna happen. I’m glad it worked, I’m glad he took it to heart… our identity and our culture… it’s not easy do credit to him… confidence to knock down those shots… that’s an NBA professional.”
• On if we should call him “Magic Curry” now: “Uh, nah… the labels and all that stuff, I don’t ever get into it because labels usually demean… my aunt, she sends me some amazing stuff from game to game… always trying to solve the Rubik’s Cube every game…. I love that part of the game…”
• On Draymond bringing his kids up to the podium: “Perspective… they’re kinda the timestamp… enjoy it a little differently… talking to LeBron about it, he’s got an almost college student… truly special, so grateful for that.”
• On if little moments like the charge overturn and technical: “Coach McKillop… Big Mo, how you finish quarters… especially in the playoffs… leaving a good feeling on the court (for halftime)… we talk about it on the bench, three minutes let’s finish this quarter strong because it can carry over.”
• We needed this one… win at all costs…”
• On if the Lakers are tired: “Most teams at this stage usually shrink your rotation… the styles of each team… I don’t sense that there’s fatigue at all. They’re going home for Game 3… rejuvenated.”
• On Draymond’s defense on AD: “I know he was excited about the matchup trying to find ways to make him uncomfortable… showing up every possession… that’s the back and forth of a playoff series… I got a lot of faith in Draymond… he’s a champ…”
• On if there’s relief: “…idk, every playoff game is a must-win… first one to four… big morale boost to give ourselves some real life… game can carry on the road…”
• Steve Kerr postgame Game 2 on what went right in Q2 and Q3: “We just played simple basketball… a lot of force… making good decisions… can you find that balance… hit singles… move the ball… Steph was brilliant. In the first half… running our team. Klay got it going… defense was fueling our offense.”
• On JaMychal: “…proud of J-Mike… tough for him… staying positive and staying ready.”
• On Draymond vs AD: “…brilliant. This is the guy we have to have… put him Davis tonight from the start…”
• On the free throw discrepancy: “We did a better job of defending without fouling… I’m sitting here looking at the Game 1 boxscore… (blames jokingly Raymond Ridder)… good to have someone competent.”
• On Klay: “That’s the best version of Klay… taking great shots… we got really good shots, 21-for-42… clean looks… weren’t forcing anything, just moving it to the open guy. Klay can get hot really hot really fast…”
• On if Looney could’ve started: “Literally two hours before game time Loon came down pretty ill. So I talked to Rick Celebrini and he said Loon probably wouldn’t play more than twenty minutes… sitting forever and kind of some awkward lengthy periods on the bench… off the bench… rhythm… we knew we were gonna play JaMychal anyway like he did in Game 1… knocked down some threes… athletic and aggressive.”
• On if Draymond had different energy: “Anytime we lose and Draymond feels disappointed… aggressive from the beginning… Draymond was brilliant.”
• On being able to rest their veterans: “Klay played 31 minutes… tops on the team… they were able to do the same thing… both teams should benefit.”
• On if Klay starting vs D’Angelo helped him: “Klay is able to guard pretty much a anybody… really likes guarding the ball… everything seemed to click tonight… be ready for whatever comes our way.”
• On if Klay can spring loose: “…doesn’t matter how many wing defenders the opponent has… key for us tonight was getting the movement… hit singles… when we do that Klay tends to get really clean looks.”
• On if he likes 50 or Strength in Numbers: : “I like winning… whatever it takes… he knew going into Game 7… do what he did… tonight he didn’t, got into the early foul trouble… Steph was very content just being a more traditional point guard… 20 points and 12 assists, that’s pretty good…”
• On why J-Mike vs small-ball; “Lakers are huge, they’re a massive team… we had to bring some size, some physicality… toughness… we wanted to be more physical tonight…”
• On if the Lakers are more extreme going big: “…they’ll pick certain guys and not guard them and pack the paint… they know what they’re doing and they have a plan… we have to counter that.”
• On if Draymond straight like to the paint is what they want: “…more driving lanes… Draymond was locked in… more room to attack.”
• On if he tried changing angles on screens with angles: “…doing what we tried against Sacramento, to stay on top of the shooters… figure out ways to free them up.”
• Darvin Ham pregame on the dismissal of Mike Budenholzer from the Bucks: “…unfortunate… allowing me, myself and others… going on that initial ride with him… always being a pro-player coach… dealing with your star players… developing a program… how much he cared for his players and wanting them to be in the best possible zone… a brother… he and I are family for life… he’ll bounce back when he’s ready.”
• On anticipating what the Warriors will do: “…is throwing stuff against the wall… going into Game 1 to what actually happened in Game 1… be honest with yourself… being ready to pivot… comes within the game too… (before is) all speculation… Plan B or Plan C, but I hate speculation, I just like the reality of the situation… we saw what we need to do… do it again but even better.”
• On the Warriors’ small lineup and if they’re ready: “Absolutely… our energy and our effort possession by possession… heightened awareness after a make, after a miss… locating shooters… be more physical with our screens… love and live in the paint… they’re fast, they’re speed is one-of-a-kind… sprinting back the other way. We got a little taste of that… force our will even more…”
• On noticing things can be a little sharper: “…the plan that is already in place… take it a step further to a higher level… we’ll stick with the initial plan… we’re prepared for a long series.”
• On the rotations and minutes: “…Rui got hurt a little bit because we ran AD and Bron for longer stretches… having able bodies… not caught up in their own personal agenda per se…”
• On LeBron being this productive at 38 and adapting his game: “His preparation, man… the constant evolution of his game… rest, proper nutrition… manages certain days, certain work rates… great for the younger guys… emergence of certain guys… allows him to not have to dominate the ball… Draymond mentioned it… he’s played more off the ball… that’s deliberate… guys able to step up and make plays… plethora of guys we can ride for different segments of the game… not being forced to be the tone-setter…”
• On the three-point struggles: “We have a mantra… We’re gonna love and live in the paint… guys gotta just shoot it when they’re open… we’ve been better at driving and swinging than shooting (laughs).”
• On relying on the tandem of AD and LeBron: “…The term load management is constantly used but this is what it’s for… medical staff… coaching staff… daily regimen… these guys are thirsty…”
