I haven’t lived in Akron for 55 years. I have made frequent visits back as my parents lived there, and now my older daughter and her son live there. During one visit, I noticed an “official ” sign -“Welcome to Akron, Ohio – Home of LeBron James”. Who the heck is LeBron James ( not a big sports fan, right?) My grandson and daughter were astonished and quickly educated me. My daughter an educator tutored me on the impact of LeBron’s support for education. My grandson educated me on the impact of LeBron’s basketball prowess. Since that time, I have become totally enraptured with this intelligent, talented, generous and farseeing athlete from Akron. So much so, that earlier this year, I did a painting of LeBron and included a quote about “change isn’t made by sitting on the sidelines. Vote” attributed it to him. I am not an artist and the painting is made on cardboard from packages I saved from supplies delivered during this pandemic. But that painting has been in my front window for at least 4 months, and I believe, aside from my children and grandchildren , is the event in my life of which I am most proud.
