The Philadelphia 76ers are a team with potential interest in Jonathan Kuminga, reports Jake Fischer. The Sixers could use the contract of K.J. Martin and their future draft picks to acquire a player like Kuminga. The Golden State Warriors and Kuminga were unable to agree to terms on a contract extension and were reportedly never close. The Warriors would be “happy to pay” Kuminga if he demonstrates the ability to produce at a high level over a bigger sample size. “The Sixers have definitely indicated around the league and behind the scenes that they are willing to pay to add in another piece,” said Fischer. “They are willing to spend their draft capital.” Fischer said the Sixers’ ownership group is prepared to go over the luxury tax to maximize their title chances. The Brooklyn Nets are another team who could pursue Kuminga. The Nets figure to have as much cap space as any team “There’s already been rumblings of Brooklyn potentially willing to throw a big offer sheet at Jonathan Kuminga,” said Fischer.

Jonathan Kuminga was asked about the fact that his extension didn’t get done in the locker room postgame. “I’m not really concerned about it,” he told The Athletic. “I’m just concerned about coming out here and performing every other day. I ain’t really thinking about that. The time came and nothing happened. So I’m not very concerned about it much anymore. I can just be me and not think about it. I’ve been through so much. A lot of people don’t know me, don’t know what I’ve been through. There’s not too many things that can break me.” -via New York Times / October 24, 2024
“The Kuminga situation was never close,” said Brian Windhorst on the Hoops Collective Podcast. “Both sides put out numbers in the process. They were not close. The gap never really got closed. That deal was struck long before the deadline, they knew there wasn’t a deal there.” -via RealGM / October 23, 2024
Kendra Andrews: Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy says there’s no “overreaction” to not getting Kuminga an extension. “Not much has changed in regards to our hopes for his future with this team. Sometimes these things get done, sometimes they don’t…Hope to get something done in the offseason.” -via x.com / October 22, 2024
