Ahead of this year’s NBA Trade Deadline, one of the major names to monitor is Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox. Next season is the last on his five-year, $163 million contract, and he may not sign a new deal to remain in Sacramento. Additionally, the Kings could remain interested in shaking things up after shockingly firing head coach Mike Brown in late December. The Kings are currently 15-19 and own the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference. After acquiring DeMar DeRozan last summer, it seems that the Kings are in win-now mode. Due to their slow start nearly halfway through the season, making a trade could help them in the short term. However, it does not seem likely that moving on from Fox is going to happen during the season.
According to Sam Amick and Anthony Slater of The Athletic (subscription required), there is a better chance of the Kings trading Fox in the offseason.
“While league sources say Fox has not asked for a trade, that hasn’t stopped interested teams from planning for a possible run at the 27-year-old former All-Star. Among interested teams, there is a strong belief that Fox is more likely to be available this summer rather than before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.”

Possible De’Aaron Fox Trade Destinations
In their report, Amick and Slater listed multiple teams currently linked to Fox. If the Kings opt to trade the Kentucky alum, it would make sense to monitor these teams.
The San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers top the list of teams that are most often discussed as possible Fox landing spots, with others sure to make a run at him if (when?) he’s truly on the market. The Orlando Magic, for example, are known to be contemplating a pursuit. The Houston Rockets, who want to analyze their current core through this season but could be in the market for another All-Star-caliber player this summer, are also known to be intrigued by the idea of partnering with Fox, who is a Houston native. Make no mistake, though: the Spurs noise is the loudest.
Fox went to high school in Texas, so he has some ties to teams like the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs. Additionally, the Miami Heat could be a good destination for him as well, especially if they trade Jimmy Butler. This would change their timeline as a championship contender, one that Fox would fit. Additionally, the Los Angeles Lakers could make sense as well. They recently shipped D’Angelo Russell out to the Brooklyn Nets. Additionally, pairing Fox alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis is intriguing.
The Last Word
Though the Kings are not having a great season, Fox is having another fantastic campaign. Through 34 games, the 27-year-old is averaging 26.8 points, 5 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2 steals. The one-time All-Star is making a solid case to earn the honors once again. Whether he could do it with the Kings or another team in 2025, however, remains to be seen.
