One of the key players for the Sacramento Kings finally ending their 17-year playoff drought in 2023 was All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox. But as the NBA trade deadline looms, Fox seems to be eyeing the exit.
Reports emerged on Tuesday that the Kings are prepared to deal Fox to another team ahead of the February 6 trade deadline.
“JUST IN: The Sacramento Kings are expected to open up talks to potentially deal All-Star De’Aaron Fox ahead of Feb. 6 trade deadline, sources tell ESPN. There will be plenty of suitors, but it’s believed that Fox has a target destination in mind ahead of 2026 free agency,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported a short while ago.
But while Charania acknowledged that Fox had “a target destination in mind,” it was Kings insider James Ham who asserted which one. Taking to X at Tuesday, Ham reported that Fox’s preferred landing spot is the San Antonio Spurs. San Antonio are 20-23 right now and four games behind in the race for the final Play-In Round spot.
“According to multiple sources, if De’Aaron Fox leaves the Kings via trade, his preferred landing spot is the San Antonio Spurs. It could be an interesting couple of days in Sacramento,” Ham reported.

NBA fans immediately started salivating at the idea of Fox joining forces with rising superstar Victor Wembanyama:
“send the trade pop. i’m buying a fox spurs jersey rn,” one user declared.
“I’d trade basically anybody on San Antonuo not named Wemby for Fox,” another wrote.
“If I’m De’Aaron Fox I’m doing anything I can to get to San Antonio and become the PG for Wemby for the next decade,” wrote a third.
Fox could be the X-factor that helps get the Spurs at least into the playoffs if not on a deep run. And at 27 years of age, Fox could be a part of the organization for a long time.
Do you think the Spurs will get a deal done for Fox? Will anyone succeed in a trade for him?
