Anytime your name appears alongside the legendary Wilt Chamberlain in the record book, it must be for a special reason. Domantas Sabonis had a wonderful performance in the Sacramento Kings game on Monday. His effort allowed him to become the second player along with Chamberlain to put up the stat line that he finished with.

On Monday evening, the Kings secured a 110-96 victory on the road against the Brooklyn Nets. The win improved Sacramento’s record to 24-22 on the season, 10th-best in the Western Conference. They are now 11-4 under interim head coach Doug Christie. The team had fallen five games under .500 when they fired Mike Brown.
In the outing, Sacramento was a +29 in Sabonis’ 41 minutes of action. The 28-year-old center finished the contest with 21 points, 22 rebounds, 10 assists while shooting 8-10 from the field. It is the seventh triple-double of the season for Sabonis and 65th of his career.
There are now two players in NBA history that have a game of at least 20 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists while shooting at least 80% from the field. After Monday night, Sabonis is one of those players. The other is Chamberlain, who accomplished those numbers five times in his Hall of Fame career.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that Chamberlain has done it, and on multiple occasions at that. His name is littered all over the record books for accomplishing things nobody else has done before. When Nikola Jokic puts up one of his many historic games, it’s often said he’s the first to do this since Chamberlain.
Will He Be Named An All-Star Reserve?
The All-Star starters were announced last Thursday, and the reserves will be announced this Thursday. Especially with the Kings playing much improved basketball of late, it will be interesting to see if Sabonis is a Western Conference reserve.
In 43 games this season, Sabonis has posted averages of 21.0 points, 14.6 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. The 6-foot-10 center has shot 60.9% from the field, 48.1% from beyond the arc, and 76.6% from the free-throw line. He is in line to lead the league in rebounding for the third-straight season. Sabonis entered the season with career 33.2% accuracy from three-point range. Because of his immense improvement, the nine-year veteran is now second in the league in three-point accuracy, only behind Luke Kennard.
A three-time All-Star, Sabonis was seen as one of the biggest snubs from last year’s game. It was a year where he finished 10th in MVP voting and made the All-NBA Third Team.
The starting frontcourt for the Western Conference is LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and the aforementioned Jokic. Between 3-5 players out West will be chosen as reserve frontcourt All-Stars. Some of the competition that Sabonis faces includes Jaren Jackson Jr., Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Davis, Alperen Sengun, and Jalen Williams.
In the meantime, the Kings will look to continue their ascent up the standings on Wednesday when they go on the road to take on the Philadelphia 76ers.
