With the 2025 trade deadline right around the corner, the NBA hot stove is percolating.
We’ll have to see if any big names get moved ahead of the deadline, but already, there are a few on the block. Jimmy Butler has famously been trying to get out of Miami for weeks, and now, the Sacramento Kings are reportedly shopping their best player.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday that the Kings are expected to have conversations about trading All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox.
“JUST IN: The Sacramento Kings are expected to open up talks to potentially deal All-Star De’Aaron Fox ahead of Feb. 6 trade deadline, sources tell ESPN. There will be plenty of suitors, but it’s believed that Fox has a target destination in mind ahead of 2026 free agency,” Charania wrote.
Fox, 27, was the fifth overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft out of Kentucky. The dynamic lefty floor general made his first All-Star Game in 2022-23 and led the NBA in steals last season.
Fox also helped the Kings reach the playoffs in 2023 for the first time in 17 seasons before bowing out to the Golden State Warriors.
Rumors about Fox’s future have been swirling for some time now. He’s in the penultimate year of a five-year $163 million contract and without another agreement in place, some have wondered if Fox might be available.
This season, Fox is averaging 25.2 points, 6.2 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Kings, who are 24-22 overall but 11-4 under interim head coach Doug Christie after firing Mike Brown.
Sacramento enters tonight one loss ahead of the Golden State Warriors for the final spot in the Western Conference Play-In Tournament.
The 2025 NBA trade deadline is next Thursday, Feb. 6. We should start to get some deals popping up over the next few days.
