There have been some pretty great home runs in Giants history. What are Giants fans’ favorites that they’ve gotten to see in-person?
Good morning, baseball fans!
We are just a few days away from a few non-Spring Training exhibition games for the San Francisco Giants, as they will take on the Sacramento River Cats this Sunday before welcoming the Detroit Tigers to Oracle Park for a little pre-season fun.
Looking at this portion of the schedule got me thinking about an exhibition game that I attended back in 2016 when the Giants played the River Cats again. This was the scene of my absolute favorite home run of all time, so I wanted to talk about that today and find out what some of your favorite home runs that you’ve seen in person are.
It was a terrible day for me, personally. I had a death in the family during the game and was stuck there because I had not driven. However, former first baseman/team captain/motorcycle giraffe Brandon Belt decided to pitch in and help make the day a little better.
It was my first time attending a game at the River Cats’ ballpark, and after visiting with a few of the McCoven, I decided to take a walk around the park and I ended up out near the lawn seating area. It was at this point that Belt proceeded to hit a home run directly at me.
Did I catch that ball? Absolutely not. There’s a reason I was a catcher and not an outfielder. But for me, it made the day absolutely memorable in a good way.
I guess my runner-up home run would be when Austin Slater hit a grand slam at the McCovey Chronicles meet-up game back in 2019. It was no Brandon Belt special delivery, but it was pretty cool.
Meanwhile, my dad got to be in attendance when Barry Bonds broke the home run record. I can’t top that, but I bet some of you can come close.
