Yastrzemski and Pence chat about what it’s like to play right field at Oracle Park, and share some of their tips and tricks.
Good morning, baseball fans!
As I sat down to write this last night, I decided I would check in on the San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks game to see what kind of tone we were looking at for this morning.
I thought, “Well, the game’s only been going about an hour, so there’s probably not too much to…” at which point the MLB website finished loading and revealed a score of 6-1, Arizona.
This was when I decided that you all deserve nice things in your life, and if the Giants won’t provide them on the field, you can get them here, as a treat.
The Giants’ YouTube channel posted a video over the weekend featuring Mike Yastrzemski and Hunter Pence discussing the good, the bad, and the ugly of playing right field at Oracle Park.
Pence and Yastrzemski have a fun chemistry while recounting stories and sharing some of their trade secrets. Yastrzemski discusses how Jung Hoo Lee helped shift his approach to making throws more efficiently, and gives his thoughts on being the one to make the last catch of Blake Snell’s no-hitter.
Also, Pence gets bonus points from me for wearing a throwback “Lincecum Knows” hat.
Anyway, enjoy these 20 minutes of light-hearted fun. You’ve earned them.
What time do the Giants play today?
The Giants continue their three-game series against the Diamondbacks tonight at 6:45 p.m. PT from Oracle Park.
