Giants fans will never forget their former ace, even if it’s still a bit painful to see him on the other side of the field.
Good morning, baseball fans! Who needs coffee when you can watch highlights from last night’s game. Hey, what are you doing looking at the box score? I told you highlights!
Buster Posey scored from first on a double for crying out loud, if that doesn’t wake you up, I don’t know what will. (Just, you know, go ahead and have that coffee afterwards before you do look at the box score.)
I don’t think it was so much that things went right for the Giants, as things went wrong for the Diamondbacks, but I’ll take it.
For me, though, the highlight of the night had to be the Giants fans getting to pay their respects to their former ace and postseason legend, Madison Bumgarner. He was recognized by his former organization after the first inning and received a standing ovation that lasted nearly a minute.

If I said I didn’t tear up watching that, I’d be a dirty liar. With the pandemic happening right after he left, and all of the other things going on in the world, there was a part of my brain that knew that he was gone, but considering I hadn’t really been able to watch a lot of baseball since the end of the 2019 season, it hadn’t really hit me in my heart that he was gone until that moment.
It’s been a little while since we last saw Bumgarner in a Giants uniform. And even at that game, it was (understandably) more about Bruce Bochy’s final game than the possibility that Bumgarner might not be back. So it was nice to see the fans get the opportunity to give him that big “thank you” moment that he has well and truly earned.
It was a night with just the right mix of nostalgia and a reminder that the present is pretty great too.
