The seemingly growing disarray within the Giants’ organization is not a good look for a franchise that has already been struggling to find positive publicity for a long time.
Good morning, baseball fans!
As someone who covers the San Francisco Giants for five days out of the week, I swear it seems like every time my days off come around, all the news happens at the same time. And this week was no exception.
A right-handed splash hit? McCovey Cove Dave holding it hostage for a better return? Beat writer sources seemingly at war? Buster Posey’s name being dragged through the mud?
The Giants sure do seem to be in disarray at the moment. And it’s a bad look that keeps getting worse.
With regards to he said/she said of what actually transpired during the Matt Chapman extension process, I’m not here to take sides or say what’s true (if any of it is). I’m sure all sources involved have their reasons for having their own version of events shared with the public. But the fact that there are seemingly warring versions of events coming from within the organization is a cause of concern for me.
The Chapman extension was good news! Good news that an organization like the Giants should have been able to unite behind for the much-needed good publicity it would bring. Instead, the situation is devolving faster than a game of Telephone being played with Halloween masks on.
I don’t know if it’s time for the Giants to part ways with Farhan Zaidi. But I can say that the fact that there are seemingly people within the organization trying to paint him in a bad light doesn’t make me optimistic that firing him would solve the organization’s overall problems any time soon.
What time do the Giants play today?
The Giants continue their three-game road series against the Baltimore Orioles this afternoon at 3:35 p.m. PT.
