More baseball. More non-Giants baseball, sadly.
Monday was quite a day for San Francisco Giants pitchers. Not current ones, mind you, but pitchers who were recently employed by the Giants. Game 1 of the ALCS pitted a pair of recent Giants All-Stars against each other, as Alex Cobb and Carlos Rodón squared off. And over in Game 2 of the NLCS, Sean Manaea took the mound at Chavez Ravine. Between the two Championship Series games, exactly three starting pitchers were used: one was a Giant in 2024, one in 2023, and one in 2022.
They mostly performed well. Cobb struggled, but Rodón was dominant, as the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Guardians to take a 5-2 in the series opener. And more importantly, Manaea was sensation as he led the New York Mets to a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, evening the series at a game apiece.
That series gets the day off today, as the teams fly back to New York City. And speaking of that fine metropolis, that’s where today’s baseball takes place, as the Yankees host the Guardians for Game 2 of the ALCS, with first pitch scheduled for 4:38 p.m. PT. There are no former Giants starting this game, though the Yankees starter, Gerrit Cole, is Brandon Crawford’s brother-in-law, so there are still some ties. He’s up against Tanner Bibee in a very fun pitching matchup. You can watch on TBS, truTV, or Max.
Enjoy the baseball, even if it’s not the Giants.
How many days until Opening Day?
Only 163 days until the Giants start the 2025 season. Can’t wait!
