Both have been outrighted.
The San Francisco Giants have given cups of coffee to a few debuting big leaguers this year, and there’s a chance that a few of those players will get another cup of coffee with the team. While players like Mitch White, Daulton Jefferies, and Nick Avila found new homes after being designated for assignment, the Giants announced on Monday that left-handed pitcher Raymond Burgos and first baseman Trenton Brooks had both cleared waivers, and had been outrighted to AAA Sacramento.
Burgos would seem to have a decent shot at working his way back on the roster. The Giants are shy on left-handed relief depth — they have two southpaws in the Major League bullpen (Taylor Rogers and Erik Miller), and their two most exciting left-handed relievers in AAA (Reggie Crawford and Juan Sánchez) are both injured at the moment. Burgos impressed with the River Cats and with his lone stint in the Majors, before he was DFA’d to make room on the 40-man roster for Hayden Birdsong.
Brooks has more of an uphill battle. Not only is left-handed hitter LaMonte Wade Jr. (the player Brooks was filling in for) healthy again, but David Villar has clearly jumped Brooks on the depth chart, and Blake Sabol probably will soon, too. Plus, he struggled a bit in his MLB opportunity. Still and all, he’s great depth to have in AAA.
What time do the Giants play today?
