Buster Posey is just about finished with his first off-season as president of baseball operations. How do Giants fans think he’s done so far?
Good morning, baseball fans!
With pitchers and catchers reporting in just a couple of days, the off-season is swiftly coming to a close. It will be San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey’s first off-season in charge, and it cannot have been an easy position to come into.
Between the turmoil of how the previous two seasons ended (with the unceremonious firings of Gabe Kapler and then Farhan Zaidi) and the fact that the organization made it pretty clear that they were looking to cut payroll costs, I feel like Posey was potentially limited in his ability to make any kind of a big splash in his first season in charge.
That said, he is one of the owners, so I’m not giving him a break on that.
My personal opinion is that I haven’t seen enough. I don’t see the vision. I love Buster Posey the player and organizational personality. But I’m not sure what the plan is going into this season. I don’t feel as though the roster has improved by much over the off-season, and it really feels like we’re headed into more of the same.
Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing! Sometimes long-term plans take time to come to fruition. So I personally think it’s too soon to judge, but I lean on the side of skepticism.
How do you think Buster Posey has done so far?
