The San Francisco Giants have placed left-handed starting pitcher Kyle Harrison on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation. The 23-year-old southpaw appears to be done for the season. Harrison was banged up in his last outing, allowing six runs on seven hits, including a home run against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He also gave up five runs in his start against the Milwaukee Brewers. In his last five starts, he has surrendered seven home runs.

SF Giants Lose Lefty Southpaw To Shoulder Inflammation
Harrison’s 2024 Season
The rookie’s injury could allude to the fact that this season has been a career-high with 124.1 innings pitched. He has sported a 7-7 record with a 4.56 ERA with 118 strikeouts. His workload has been boosted to about 20 percent more than his usual quota. Despite some recent struggles, the Giants still have high hopes for him as he has showcased moments of growth and success. But Harrison appears to fit better into the role of a back-of-the-rotation pitcher. He hasn’t entirely lived up to the hype that the Giants projected with him. While he has a solid fastball, his secondary pitches must be revamped. Harrison is still young and can look forward to improving things in the 2025 season. Harrison recorded 11 strikeouts against the Colorado Rockies on July 26th in an 11-4 victory.
Harrison’s MRI indicated mild inflammation in his shoulder. He is working with Dr. Kenneth Akizuki, who will reassess his injury in about a week. He has been instructed not to throw. The good news is that it is only inflammation but has lingered throughout the season. However, in his last start, the discomfort appeared more adverse. Regarding who will take over the rotation spot for him, it is still up in the air. The Giants have called up Austin Warren from AAA Sacramento in correspondence to Harrison going on the IL.
