Justin Maxwell, who last played in 2015 for the Giants, has a surprising new career as a dentist in Maryland.
Good morning, baseball fans!
I don’t know that this will be as interesting to the majority of San Francisco Giants fans as it was to me, but I wanted to write about it so you get to read it.
Nick San Miguel of Around the Foghorn posted an interesting article last week regarding a former outfielder for the Giants in an unexpected new career.
Fans who were around in the mid-2010s may remember Justin Maxwell for his 2015 season in which he went .209/.275/.341 over 100 games, hitting seven home runs and 26 RBI. This was his last professional season, and you can watch the highlights below:
As a fun sidenote, Justin Maxwell is to this day the only Giants player I have ever met. Super nice guy, stopped and took pictures with everyone in the parking lot after Tim Lincecum’s final start as a Giant that year. Really cool. If I didn’t have a radioactive sunburn in it, I would share the picture.
Anyway, if you were wondering what Maxwell is up to these days, he’s a dentist!

A DENTIST??
Yep. Maxwell is now a dentist in Maryland, according to a Reddit post from someone in the area who was surprised to see the former Giants player when they showed up to their dentist appointment. San Miguel went on to confirm via a Google search in the area.
I think that’s really neat. I’m used to players going into broadcasting, or coaching, or other baseball adjacent careers once their playing days are behind them. It’s kind of cool to see someone go back to school and pivot to another field entirely.
How many days until Opening Day?
59 days and counting.
