Please win, Yankees.
By this time next week, the MLB offseason will be underway. The World Series will conclude on Saturday at the latest, and free agency begins the day after a champion is crowned. Five days after the World Series ends, those free agents can officially put pen to paper and ink their contracts.
Which means exciting days are ahead for the San Francisco Giants, and they’re almost here. But first we have to get through the 2024 World Series.
It didn’t get off to a good start. The hated Los Angeles Dodgers took Game 1 on Friday in come-from-behind fashion, winning on a 10th-inning walk-off grand slam by Freddie Freeman. It was one of the greatest moment in World Series history, and it was accomplished by a team you despise. All you can hope for now is that it becomes one of those funny “this would be the greatest moment in franchise history, except they ultimately lost the World Series” footnotes.
The Dodgers also won Game 2, which means the New York Yankees now need to win four of the next five games. Try not to think about that too much. Instead, try to think about how the Yankees have Aaron Judge and Juan Soto and gee, those guys must really give you an advantage when it comes to winning baseball games.
The next three games are in the Bronx, and they’re all at 5:08 p.m. PT, on FOX. Monday pits the Dodgers’ Walker Buehler against the Yankees Clarke Schmidt, while Tuesday is LA’s TBD (likely a bullpen game) against NY’s Luis Gil.
Please win, Yankees. Beat LA.
