Everyone has a story about what solidified their love for the Giants, so let’s hear what Giants fans have to say.
Good morning, baseball fans!
This week, we’ve reflected on some of our favorite San Francisco Giants memories, activities, and baseball comfort content. So in keeping with the theme, I wanted to save today’s question for today, because we all deserve a little nostalgic trip down memory lane on a Friday morning. Especially in this economy.
Today, I want to hear about how you became a Giants fan.
Like a lot you, I didn’t necessarily become a fan so much as I was born one. I was born into a family of avid baseball fans, divided nearly evenly between the Giants, Oakland Athletics (or whatever they’re called now), and Los Angeles Dodgers. Luckily, my dad was one of the Giants fans so that’s been my loyalty since before I ever lived in California.
However, there are two specific moments that I went from being a passive fan with a preference for the Giants to being an active fan who knew the roster.
The first was the signing of Barry Bonds and his subsequent super star seasons. I was eight years old, and suddenly baseball was a whole lot more interesting to me when Bonds was slugging his way into the record books.
The second moment was the very first time I walked into Oracle Park (then Pac Bell Park). It was the inaugural season, and my dad took me to my first ever in-person Giants game. I fell in love immediately. Seeing the team in person in such an electric and beautiful environment breathed life into it, and I’ve been a passionate fan ever since.
What made you a Giants fan?
