We’re a few weeks into the season, so what do Giants fans think of the team’s performance so far?
Good morning, baseball fans!
The San Francisco Giants are back on the road today, as they head to the East Coast to take on the New York Yankees.
The season is in full swing, and I’d like to do a sort of temperature check every few weeks to see what you guys think is going well, or could use some work.
Personally, I am pleasantly surprised with the team’s performance so far. I’ll admit, my expectations were pretty minimal. And they have completely surpassed them.
I was unsure what to expect when the organization didn’t seem to want to pursue many big free agents, and instead seemed optimistic about the players they already had. I admit that I did not feel that same level of optimism.
I’ve been impressed with pretty much every aspect of the game thus far. The starting pitching is solid, thus far. They’ve been hitting the ball well and fairly consistently, with 14 home runs and 94 hits (25 doubles!) in their first 12 games. And the baserunning has been pretty impressive as well, with the team stealing 13 bases and only being caught once.
To me, the coolest story of the season so far has been Wilmer Flores absolutely going off on offense, leading the team with five home runs and 14 RBI. Jung Hoo Lee’s defense and his seven triples have been pretty cool as well.
Of course, it’s still quite early in the year. But I will go ahead and tip my cap and admit that I may have been wrong to not have higher expectations of this team going into the season.
What do you think of the season so far?
