Lovely.
Hello and happy Friday.
The dust had barely cleared on the San Francisco Giants series victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, when the Dodgers made the biggest move of the trade deadline by acquiring All-Star teammates from the Washington Nationals: RHP Max Scherzer and shortstop Trea Turner.
BREAKING: The Dodgers are finalizing a deal to acquire star right-hander Max Scherzer and star shortstop Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals for a massive prospect haul, sources tell ESPN. The blockbuster of blockbusters is going to happen.

This is not great for the Giants, who are trying to hold a three-game lead over the Dodgers in the NL West. But, in a perverse way, it might be better than had Scherzer ended up with the San Diego Padres, as it initially looked like he would, simply because the Giants only have three games left against the Dodgers — and 10 against the Padres.
But it also doesn’t make me feel very good at all, knowing that the Dodgers just reloaded with a three-time Cy Young Award winner and one of the best shortstops in baseball, despite already having one of the best shortstops in baseball.
The Giants still have time to counter. Kris Bryant, Trevor Story, and José Berríos are among the many names still available. The Giants could get better. And even if they don’t, reinforcements are on the way, in the form of Brandon Belt, Evan Longoria, Tommy La Stella, and Reyes Moronta.
On the downside, the Dodgers just got a lot better. On the upside, if the Giants actually pull this off, the troll job will be that much stronger.
