Lots of roster moves, as we’ve come to expect.
We’ve grown quite accustomed to the San Francisco Giants making roster move after roster move after roster move, so it shouldn’t be at all surprising that the team made a handful of transactions ahead of their Tuesday evening game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Giants reinstated right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto off of the Injured List, and activated recently-signed left-handed pitcher José Quintana. To make room for those two, right-handed pitcher John Brebbia and infielder Jason Vosler were optioned.

Quintana was already on the 40-man roster, so no corresponding move was necessary there.
The lefty is an intriguing option for the Giants. An All-Star in 2016 with the Chicago White Sox, the 32 year old has had a bizarre 2021 with the Los Angeles Angels. His ERA (6.75) and WHIP (1.781) are rather awful, but his FIP (4.31) and strikeout to walk ratio (73 to 29 in 53.1 innings) paint a different picture. He’s been especially strong in relief, sporting a 3.93 ERA with 22 strikeouts to 3 walks in 18 innings.
Whenever he gets into a game, he’ll become the 53rd player the Giants have used this season.
The Giants will gain two additional spots on their roster on Wednesday, thanks to September roster expansions, so we’ll likely see Brebbia and Vosler again soon.
