Who is the 7th-best prospect on the Giants farm?
For the second chapter in a row, the 2025 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List has turned to a teenage shortstop international signing. This time it’s Jhonny Level, who has been voted as the No. 6 prospect in the San Francisco Giants farm system, a rise of 32 spots from his debut last year at No. 38.
Level, who was by most accounts the top player in the team’s 2024 international signing class (though he didn’t receive the largest bonus), had a standout debut season in the Dominican Summer League. Despite only turning 17 right before the season started, the switch-hitter was one of the DSL’s top performers, slashing .275/.393/.517, good for a .909 OPS. His wRC+ of 140 ranked 43rd out of 300 qualified DSL hitters, the bulk of whom were older than Level and played less important defensive positions.
He showed excellent bat control, with a 14.0% walk rate and just a 16.7% strikeout rate, and he also put his speed on display, swiping 18 bags in just 48 games (though he was caught stealing nine times). Level also did what you want to see any young player do: got better as the year went on. He started strong, then hit a big slump in mid-June. After that slump, Level ended the season hitting safely in 27 of his final 34 games, and during that time going 42-129 with nine home runs, one triple, 10 doubles, and 21 walks against 23 strikeouts.
With strong bat control, good power for the position, defense that has a decent chance of staying at shortstop, and good speed, Level is a highly exciting prospect who will be so much fun to watch in the states next year.
Now let’s move forward with our list! And we’ll take a break to enjoy the holiday, and reconvene on Monday.
