Who is the 6th-best prospect on the Giants farm?
The fifth chapter of the 2025 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List brought us an interesting name and a break from precedence. With 27% of the vote in the seven-player field, shortstop Josuar de Jesus González has been voted as the No. 5 prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization.
There is arguably one tiny problem: González isn’t actually in the Giants organization. But the switch-hitting phenom has been heavily linked to the Giants for a long time now, and even has the Giants in his bio on social media. While agreements with international prospects do occasionally fall through, it is overwhelmingly likely that González will officially become a member of the Giants come January, and I made the executive decision to allow him into the CPL now so that we can slot him into the right spot, rather than retroactively finding the right ranking for him in a few months.
González is almost unanimously viewed as the top prospect in the upcoming international signing period (save for the unique case of Rōki Sasaki). He’s drawn lofty comparisons to All-Star shortstops, and has the tools to excel in every part of the game.
We’ll have to wait to see if the Giants play it conservatively with González, who just turned 17, and slot him into the Dominican Summer League, or if they send him straight to the states for the Arizona Complex League … or even Low-A San Jose.
