Who is the 5th-best prospect on the Giants farm?
Our 2025 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List marches on, as we continue ranking the top 44 prospects in the San Francisco Giants organization.
The latest chapter brings us a name who had a disappointing season … but still moved up in the CPL. It’s outfielder Rayner Arias, who has been voted as the No. 4 prospect in the Giants system, a rise of one spot from his place last year.
Arias, who doesn’t turn 19 until late April, had a superstar performance in his 2023 debut in the DSL, but it was cut short due to injuring his wrist while diving for a ball. And when he arrived at Spring Training in 2024, he promptly suffered the same injury while doing the same thing. That delayed the start of his season, and also seemed to sap him of his power.
He eventually recovered enough to play in 25 games in the Arizona Complex League, where he hit .250/.371/.364, good for a 98 wRC+. Not bad numbers, especially for someone so young, but not numbers befitting someone who, when the year began, seemed like a decent bet to emerge as the team’s top prospect.
Arias is one of the best athletes in the system, with explosive power, good speed, a big arm, and the ability to play center field (though one can never assume that will last). His 2025 will be all about getting healthy, so we can see if those absurd numbers he flexed as a 17-year old in the DSL — when he hit .414/.539/.793 — can play in the Minor Leagues.
Now we move on with our list, and we have some new names to choose from!
