Community Prospect List No. 31

Who is the 31st-best prospect on the farm?

We officially have a top 30! With Spring Training a week away, we’re officially cruising through the 2025 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List, which will see us rank the top 44 prospects in the San Francisco Giants organization.

Rounding out our top 30 is a CPL newcomer: outfielder Jakob Christian. A right-handed hitter who turned 22 in September, Christian was the Giants fifth-round selection in the 2024 draft, which made him the third Giant selected (the team sacrificed their second and third-round picks to sign Matt Chapman and Blake Snell). The new rookie-league schedule meant he skipped the ACL, and made his debut with Low-A San Jose, where he played in nine games and hit 8-30 with one home run, four doubles, five walks, and eight strikeouts, good for an .878 OPS and a 130 wRC+.

Power is the name of Christian’s game. He’s unlikely to provide much defensive or baserunning value, but he smacked 26 home runs last year at the University of San Diego. But that power, combined with some solid contact skills, makes for an exciting bat that will be fun to monitor in 2025. The system sure could use a nice dose of power!
