Community Prospect List No. 26

Who is the 26th-best prospect on the farm?

We’re comfortably into the second half of the 2025 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List, which will see us rank the top 44 prospects in the San Francisco Giants system. And it’s good that we’re making our way through the project, because Spring Training is right around the corner!

The next name on our list is third baseman Robert Hipwell, who makes his CPL debut as the No. 25 player in the system. Hipwell, who turns 22 in March, is a local kid, as he was born in Los Gatos and played college ball at Santa Clara. The Giants selected the left-handed hitter in the sixth round of July’s draft, and he becomes the third player from that draft to be voted onto the CPL.

Hipwell debuted with Low-A San Jose after the draft, and hit … interestingly. He had some pretty big contact issues, with a 29.4% strikeout rate and just a .194 batting average. But thanks to a stellar walk rate (15.4%) and some good power (five home runs in 136 plate appearances), Hipwell still had a respectable .360 on-base percentage and .402 slugging percentage, resulting in a .762 OPS and a 109 wRC+. There’s a lot of work to be done for everything to click, but left-handed power bats are always worth being excited about!
