Who is the 25th-best prospect on the farm?
We’re now comfortably into the second half of the 2025 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List, which will see us rank the top 44 prospects in the San Francisco Giants organization. The names may not be as big now, but the arguments and votes are closer than ever!
The next name we add is outfielder and first baseman Victor Bericoto, who has been voted as the No. 24 prospect in the system. It’s a drop of five spots for Bericoto, who snuck into the top-10 as the No. 19 prospect in last year’s CPL.
It was a weird year for Bericoto, who was signed during the 2018 J2 period out of Venezuela. The right-handed slugger, who turned 23 in December, spent the entire season with AA Richmond, where he ended 2023 following a midseason promotion.
There was good, bad, and everything in between. Bericoto’s year-over-year AA numbers improved when it came to batting average and on-base percentage, jumping from .237/.292 to .261/.309. His walk rate and strikeout rate held their position with remarkable consistency, going from 6.9%/26.5% to 6.3%/24.0%. But his power dropped off very extensively, with his slugging percentage cratering from .478 to .384.
Bericoto hit 11 home runs in Richmond in 2023, and 11 more in 2024. The difference is that those 2023 dingers came in just 204 plate appearances, while the 2024 ones needed 479 plate appearances. As a result, he went from leading the organization in homers in 2023 (he had 27 between High-A and AA) to being a fairly nondescript power presence in 2024.
He’s a cromulent defensive player in the outfield or at first base; good enough to play in the field if his power returns, but not good enough to play if it doesn’t. So this will be a vital year for Bericoto, who will presumably head to AA for a third stint and second full season, after finishing 2024 with a .693 OPS and a 99 wRC+.
