Who is the 19th-best prospect in the Giants system?
Onward we march with the 2025 Willie McCovey Memorial Community Prospect List. We’re almost at the halfway point of ranking the top 44 prospects in the San Francisco Giants organization!
Coming in at No. 18 is third baseman Sabin Ceballos, who makes his CPL debut. A right-handed hitter who turned 22 at the end of the season, Ceballos was a third-round pick in the 2023 draft by the Atlanta Braves. The Giants acquired him in July in the trade that sent Jorge Soler to Atlanta.
Ceballos, who is known for having a good hit tool and quality defense, was having a so-so season with the Braves at the time of the trade. Playing with their High-A affiliate, the Oregon product hit .259/.353/.354, with just three home runs in 377 plate appearances, good for a .706 OPS and a 109 wRC+. But all his potential flooded out when the Giants acquired him and sent him to the Eugene Emeralds, their High-A affiliate. There, Ceballos hit a blistering .295/.364/.549 with seven home runs in 140 plate appearances, for a .913 OPS and a 149 wRC+.
We also saw good discipline and control at the plate for Ceballos. Between his stints with the two teams, he had a 10.1% walk rate and a 20.1% strikeout rate, both of which are nice numbers. As with most third base prospects, though, it’s still unclear whether Ceballos can hit well enough to stay at the position … or field well enough to stay there, for that matter. He’ll presumably begin the year with AA Richmond, and it will be a lot of fun to see what he does there.
