Alex Wood vs. JT Brubaker.
It’s series finale time, and the goal here for the San Francisco Giants is to gain some momentum against a bad Pittsburgh Pirates team that they can then carry into yet another dramatic and meaningful series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It’s lefty Alex Wood on the mound for the Giants. Wood’s stats are decent, but not great — he has a 3.77 ERA and 3.83 FIP — but his strikeout pitches have been working for him lately. In his last four outings he has 29 strikeouts in 22.1 innings.
He’s up against righty JT Brubaker, who has struggled this year. Brubaker has a 4.68 ERA and 4.80 FIP, but perhaps more importantly, has allowed 19 home runs in 92.1 innings. The Giants are an elite home run hitting team, so look for some long balls.
