Yankees and Dodgers Face off in Los Angeles
For the one hundred and twenty first time, dating back to 1903, the championship of Major League Baseball will begin today with the World Series. Tonight, with a 5:00 PM PDT (8:00 PM EDT) first pitch the New York Yankees will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine. This matchup is one of the most storied in all of baseball dating back to 1941 when the Yankees defeated the (then) Brooklyn Dodgers four games to one. Since then, the teams have faced off eleven more times with the Yankees dominating the series with eight victories.
But none of that history matters when the teams take the field tonight. Yankees Skipper Aaron Boone will send his ace Gerrit Cole to the mound. Cole, who is no stranger to World Series starts brings a 2024 post season 3.31 ERA with nineteen hits and twelve strike outs into this start. For the season, he was 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA. He’ll be facing Jack Flaherty for Dave Roberts’ Dodgers. Flaherty has a 7.04 ERA with fifteen hits and eight K’s this post season to go with his 13-7, 3.17 ERA for the regular season.
The teams come from the two largest media markets in the country with fans starving to claim victory. While the series is chock full of incredible matchups to watch, maybe the most intriguing is the two odds on favorites for league MVP’s will be going head-to-head in Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge. This is likely to be the first World Series featuring five league MVPs: the Dodgers’ Ohtani, Freeman and Mookie Betts, and the Yankees’ Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
