Today’s Spring opener at Hohokam
Today marks the first spring training game of the 2025 season at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, the Athletics spring home as they take on the split squad of the Colorado Rockies. Jeffrey Springs makes his debut in an A’s uniform, getting his first start of the season. Springs, one of the big off-season acquisitions for the A’s will likely only toss two innings and will certainly be on a pitch count. He was 2-2 last year with the Tampa Bay Rays in just seven starts after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The A’s will go up against Jake Woodford for the visiting Rockies. This is also his first start for Colorado after signing as a free agent from the Pirates organization earlier this year. Many players who figure to be in the opening day lineup for the A’s will be getting the start today. But early in the spring, substitutions will flow freely.
