The new NFL season is fast approaching, with the first week of pre-season taking place next weekend! A lot of football fans are extremely excited already – the wait is almost over!
Week 1 of the NFL season starts with Thursday Night Football, starting with Super Bowl Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosting the Dallas Cowboys. We’re hoping it’s an interesting start to the NFL campaign, and there will be plenty of action over the next six months!
The question is, who’s going to be crowned the winner of each division in the regular season?
AFC
AFC North – Baltimore Ravens
We start with what could be an extremely competitive division this season, with each franchise improving in the offseason. The Steelers still have Big Ben at QB, who is likely to retire after the season. While the Browns also pose a threat at the top, we are predicting that Lamar Jackson and Co. push the Ravens as division leaders.
AFC East – Buffalo Bills
With Tom Brady out of the division, times have seemed to change, with the Patriots dropping significantly in terms of the team to beat. Everyone knows that the Jets are struggling, and won’t be anywhere near this conversation. The Miami Dolphins are within touching distance of the Bills, but our prediction is that Buffalo will win the division once again.
AFC South – Indianapolis Colts
In the south of the country, there will be two teams battling it out for the top of the division. The Houston Texans are currently in a mess, and whilst Trevor Lawrence will boost the Jaguars, they aren’t quite there just yet. Arthur Smith left the Tennessee Titans earlier this year, so we can’t account for how good QB Ryan Tannehill will be. However, they will always be in the conversation with Derrick Henry in the backfield. We think the Colts take this one come January.
AFC West – Kansas City Chiefs
What else can be said? It’s extremely likely that the Chiefs will win the division, and it will arguably be comfortable for them in the process. Kansas City will no doubt be looking to return to the Super Bowl, and winning the division will almost be a given. Side note: As an extra prediction, be sure to watch the LA Chargers this year – they’re not on the Chiefs’ level, but are a dark horse heading into the season.
NFC
NFC North – Green Bay Packers
With Aaron Rodgers returning to training, and the recent trade for receiver Randall Cob to return to Lambeau Field, the Packers look set to be much stronger than their divisional rivals. It’s still uncertain how long Rodgers will be starting QB for, but as long as he’s still in Green Bay, the Packers will be strongest in the division.
NFC East – Dallas Cowboys
Similar to the Packers – admittedly to less of an extent – Dallas managed to sort out their QB position in the offseason. Now, Dak Prescott will be starting the season as the Cowboys’ QB. On top of that, star running back Ezekiel Elliott should be returning to full health. A further improvement to their defense with the Draft could definitely help them against the rest of the teams struggling in the NFC East.
NFC South – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Again, this is another pick that is one of our more certain predictions. The Champions have been able to keep hold of the majority of their Super Bowl winning roster, and with their additions to their offensive line, they’ll protect Tom Brady even better and push for a consecutive Lombardi Trophy.
NFC West – LA Rams
The NFC West is the toughest division in the NFL. It’s hard to argue otherwise. All four teams could make a case for themselves winning the division, and it’s definitely up for debate. However, we are predicting that it will be the LA Rams that win, mainly thanks to their top defense. With Matt Stafford now as starting QB, they could gain that extra edge on offense over their division rivals.
