Avoid a sweep?
One last chance to beat the Seattle Mariners. The Oakland A’s have lost 14 of 18 meetings this year, and Wednesday brings the finale of the season series up at T-Mobile Park.
On the mound is Frankie Montas, the rotation’s best starter the past few months. He last faced Seattle in July and tossed a quality start, going six innings with 10 strikeouts and three runs allowed, including homers by Luis Torrens and Cal Raleigh who are both in the lineup tonight. Over his past 16 games he has a fantastic 2.38 ERA in more than six frames per outing, and in his last two appearances he shut down the Angels and Astros.
Oakland gets outfielder Starling Marte back in their lineup, after missing two games to a sore lat muscle. They’ll face Mariners starter Logan Gilbert for the fourth time this year, having scored seven runs in 12⅔ innings against him in their previous three tries.
